Jillian Tamaki for Penguin

I just came across these limited edition book designs by Canadian artist and cartoonist Jillian Tamaki, who has been commissioned to illustrate and embroider three covers for Penguin Classics: Black Beauty, The Secret Garden and Jane Austen’s Emma, released in the autumn.

Everything is hand stitched, including the logo and lettering, and I think they are so sweet… particularly as books need all the help they can get right now.

The Secret Garden is my favourite.

DAY Birger et Mikkelsen A/W 2010

I am a longstanding fan of quirky Danish label DAY Birger et Mikkelsen‘s clothes and homeware ranges, and a look at this season’s new interiors offering has only compounded my love. Fusing fresh and simple colours  – oatmeal, black, coral, silver, grey – with hand-embroidered cushions and delicately engraved silver accessories, the collection is simple yet striking, with their characteristically pared down, ethnic aesthetic resonating throughout – the emphasis on crafts and handmade designs still strong.

My favourite for this season is the siamese grey climbing flower cushion cover, with coral petals and asphalt leaves. Warm and bold, it is perfect for oppressive winter days.

People we’re loving: Lulu & Nat

I am always seduced by Indian textiles and crafts. Unable to hop on a plane and stock up, I like to keep an eye on Indian-inspired homewares available a little closer to home.

When I first saw these designs by English duo Lulu & Nat, my heart gave a little flutter. Their products are hand made using embroidery and block printing, in lovely warm colours – the quilts are so soft they even come in cot size. They also do tablecloths, wall hangings, cards and clothes.
